UKSCB Curation Policy

UKSCB Curation Policy

For each cell line approved by the UK Steering Committee the Bank will apply its Banking and Curation Policy, established by its Management Committee and approved by the Steering Committee.  This determines the level to which each deposit is progressed in terms of banking and testing. This policy is based on the duty of the Bank to provide safe storage of a sample of each cell line approved by the Steering Committee, and also on the need to develop the scientific value of the UK Stem Cell Bank holdings.

The Bank recognises two forms of deposit: banking and curation.  Banking is defined as the expansion of a stem cell line to form one or more stem cell banks for eventual release for research or therapeutic applications.  Curation is defined as the custodianship of a limited stock of a stem cell line for storage or archival purposes only.

In order to facilitate transparency, the Bank, shall apply published criteria.  These criteria will be subject to periodic review and the status of all cell lines held by the UK Stem Cell Bank reviewed on an annual basis.  Any changes to the designation of the cell line shall be notified to the Depositor and published on the Bank’s website.
